On 17TH of March, the Asset Management Association of China (AMAC) partnered with UN Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) organized a joint event titled “Principles for Responsible Investment: ESG Defines New Investment Trend”. Introducing global best practice in responsible investment, the event focused on green investment and providing guidance for  investors.

Mr. Hong Lei, Chairman of AMAC, delivered welcome remarks for the eventMr. Martin Skancke, Chair of PRI, introduced how to implement responsible investment in his keynote speech; two panel sessions focused on how ESG investment can satisfy different objectives and available tools for green investment. SynTao Green Finance’s chairman, Dr Guo Peiyuan attended the panel discussion session and shared his insi*ght on green investment tools.

Mr. Hong Lei stated that the core value of responsible investment is sustainability, which involves three elements: long-term, value and the ability to grow. Currently, not only China but also the whole industry around the world are facing the problem of over-emphasizing short-term returns. An imbalanced trend in investment will be inevitable if things continued. From the perspective of asset management sector, the implementation of responsible investment requires eliminating short-termism in three aspects: underlying assets, investment tools and investors. We wish China can truly take in the conception of responsibility and incorporate the ESG approach into the investment process.

His speech focused on two topics: why we need a transformation to green economy and how Chinese investors can implement responsible investment. He further pointed out that, the increasing social impact and risk generated by environmental pollution is the major push for China’s green transformation. The six principles of PRI can better align sustainable development with investors’ needs.
